The Genesee County leaders in Batavia, NY, have been hoping to build a seventh radio tower in the eastern part of the county for a while now. Recently the county received a $3 million state grant, and $1.2 million will be used to fund the final tower. The grant, which was provided through the Statewide Interoperable Communication Grant program, will allow for the county to improve the emergency communications system. “[The site is] where the town’s Highway Department is, and it’s already public land,” County Manager Jay Gsell said. “Plus, it’s one of the higher points in that area, which will significantly improve how the 800 megahertz radios work.” (Buffalo News) The grant is part of the fourth round of state funding that has been providing counties with the funds to install new radio equipment and expand their emergency coverage.
