Mark Kinnear, Program Manager for the 2023 STAC Conference in Niagara Falls, Ontario, helped close out the two-day event by introducing the show’s designated award winners. This was the first live STAC conference since COVID for the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association.

“Well, what a fantastic two days we’ve had,” Kinnear said. “I was told that six years ago, STAC held its second annual conference in this same space. Back then, there were 200 people here and this room was actually split in half between the main plenary and the exhibit hall.”

Kinnear announced the STAC Awards given to deserving STAC members who have made exceptional contributions to STAC’s work, or Canadian tower safety more generally. The winners were nominated by their peers and voted on by members of the STAC Steering Committee.

  • STAC Volunteer of the Year Award: Jason Wolf is the Health, Safety, and Environment Manager for Korol Contracting. The STAC Volunteer of the Year Award is provided annually to an individual who has made an exceptional contribution to STAC projects or activities through volunteer service during the course of the membership year.
  • STAC Safety Leadership Award: Frank Tang is Senior Engineer at TELUS. The STAC Safety Leadership Award is provided to an individual in recognition of an act or activity that has helped improve Canadian tower safety outcomes, either immediately or over an extended period of time.
  • STAC Lifetime Achievement Award: Simon Weisman, P.Eng., FCSCE, MASCE. The STAC Lifetime Achievement Award is provided to an individual in recognition of an abundance of acts or activities that have helped improve Canadian tower safety outcomes over an extended period of time.
