BAI Communications, rebranding as Boldyn Networks, announced it is partnering with the Olympia venue in London to provide a high-speed wireless connectivity infrastructure as part of the venue’s $1.7 billion regeneration project. As the official distributed antenna system partner for Olympia, BAI will build the infrastructure to enable 5G connectivity throughout Olympia’s outdoor and indoor spaces, including the entertainment venues, offices, hotels, performing arts school, bars, and restaurants.
BAI’s DAS is designed to be shared by all four U.K. mobile network operators – EE, O2, Vodafone, Three UK – to deliver seamless connectivity to Olympia visitors. The Olympia project follows BAI’s partnership with Transport for London (TfL) that provides the infrastructure to enable high-speed mobile coverage to the London Underground network, Inside Towers reported.
Olympia is an historic landmark that first opened in 1886, in the West Kensington part of London. Today the site functions as an exhibition, event space and conference center. It hosts a range of international trade and consumer exhibitions, conferences, and sporting events each year. The 14 acre site is currently undergoing an extensive regeneration, transforming into the ultimate destination for culture, creativity and entertainment. It’s set to open in 2025.
The BAI deal, which will enable high speed connectivity across the entire development, was brokered by the live sport and entertainment company, AEG’s Global Partnerships, that is acting as sponsorship consultants to the project.
“This marks another major step in our commitment to creating great digital infrastructure for London,” said Billy D’Arcy, U.K. and Ireland CEO at BAI Communications. “Building on our partnership with TfL, visitors will be able to enjoy seamless connectivity on their Tube journey to the venue and throughout their visit, as we continue our mission to enhance connectivity across the capital.”
Once complete, the rejuvenated Olympia will be a global destination with a diverse and extensive range of facilities, according to the companies. The historic exhibition venues are being revamped with the addition of two globally renowned hotels, more than 25 bars and restaurants, offices, a new AEG music arena and a performing arts school and theater. The complex expects to receive 12 million visitors a year, according to the Olympia website.
Will Dowdy, VP of Global Partnerships, AEG Europe, added: “The regeneration of Olympia will transform the site, creating a global destination for culture, entertainment, music, and the arts, and enhancing its iconic and historic significance. Key to this is ensuring that visitors can access high-speed mobile coverage and we are excited to welcome BAI as the DAS partner for Olympia, providing the very best 5G communications infrastructure across the entire site.”
