Safer With Cellular: Residents Support Tower

Residents in a neighborhood in Chandler, AZ have made a startling discovery. Instead of blaming imagined illnesses on cell towers, they have realized the connection between cell coverage and getting help for real health emergencies.

At a September 20 Chandler Planning and Zoning Commission meeting on a proposed cell tower inside the Sun Bird Golf Resort, residents spoke of broken legs, heart attacks and dropped 911 calls for help, according to the SanTan Sun News. They spoke of fear that help would be blocked by poor coverage in the case of burglary, as well.

Of the 50 people who attended the meeting, nearly all supported the tower, which the commission voted to recommend for City Council’s approval.

Verizon would be the first tenant on the 65-foot tower, which will be owned by Atlas Tower. It would be placed on the golf course, near a maintenance facility located behind the driving range.

Even though no one spoke against the tower at the meetings, 29 emails were sent in opposition and a petition against the tower was submitted. But the opposition appears to be well outnumbered by the homeowners who are in support of the tower.
