The geopolitical winds continue to shift when it comes to Huawei Technologies’ equipment and which countries allow it to be deployed in their wireless infrastructure. The Chinese telecom giant is focusing deployment of its 5.5G technology in the Middle East, according to the South China Morning Post.

At the 2023 Global Mobile Broadband Forum this week, Huawei and the Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company, known as du, displayed a 5.5G fixed wireless access demonstration, connected with 10 Gbps networks.

“Moving forward, Huawei will continually support du in its effort to build the best 5G networks, explore the commercial use of 5G-Advanced networks, while championing du’s leadership in this transformative era,” said Li Peng, Huawei’s Corporate Senior Vice President. Last month Huawei launched its first public cloud service in the Middle East, with a data center in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, South China Morning Post reported.

“5.5G Villa” projects the future of technology in households with high speed. “From the beginning of the 5G era, FWA has been a transformative catalyst, empowering us to deliver cutting-edge solutions to our valued customers,” Fahad Al Hassawi, the CEO of du, commented at the launch of the 5.5G Villa.

A number of European nations have taken steps to block Huawei from their 5G infrastructure, according to Chinese phone publication Gizchina, most recently Germany. Others include the U.K., France, Latvia, and Estonia.
