Nebraska awarded $19.7 million in broadband funding through the state’s Broadband Bridge Program. Most of the top awards went to small, local companies. The top five awardees were assigned 17 projects in total, including:
- Hartelco: four awards totaling $7.2 million
- Glenwood Telecommunications: five awards totaling $3.5 million
- Pinpoint Communications: three projects totaling $2.6 million
- Cambridge Telephone Company (which owns Pinpoint): one project totaling $1.1 million
- Cox Communications: two awards totaling $2.4 million
- Diller Telephone Company: two projects totaling $1.2 million
The state announced four additional winners, including Midstates Data Transport (a.k.a. Stealth Broadband), which won $785,887 for one project, while Allo Communications won $223,700 for two projects, CenturyLink/Lumen won $92,280 for one project and Charter won $492,000 for one project.
The Nebraska Public Service Commission administers the program and has reviewed 51 applications, awarding funds to 22 applicants. The funding was finalized in a bill approved by state legislators.
