Regional broadband provider, LiveOak Fiber, reports that it has invested $100 million for fiber connectivity in the state of Georgia installing over 1,000 miles of cable. The current project, according to the Savannah Business Journal, has passed the halfway point, and will eventually bring internet access to 150,000 homes and businesses.

“The reason why each of us come to work each day is to improve the quality of life in the communities we serve,” confided Jody Craft, CEO at LiveOak Fiber. “This is why we’re fully dedicated to the ongoing deployment of our fiber network across planned, existing, and prospective communities, to deliver an unparalleled broadband experience.”

LiveOak, which has clients in both Georgia and Florida, indicated that it plans to extend coverage to Tybee Island and other coastal communities once it has completed the project to deploy fiber across Glynn, Camden, and Chatham Counties. Mayor Brian West of Tybee Island stated that bringing broadband to this underserved region will be a boon to local residents and businesses.

“We’re excited about the new jobs LiveOak continues to bring to our community here in Glynn County, as well as the transformative economic impact of broadband connectivity for both our residents and businesses alike,” said Ryan Moore, President and CEO of the Golden Isles Development Authority.
