In an industry “call to action,” NATE: The Communications Infrastructure Contractors Association, is asking for input on a recently issued survey on “Rope Selection and Use.” The association said while rope is used daily for rigging, fall protection, and rescue operations, it continues to fail in the field, sometimes with catastrophic consequences.

The Rope Selection and Use Survey is an effort to gather data from field crews, safety managers, and company leadership to understand how ropes are being selected, inspected, used, and removed from service. To take the survey, click here.

Every broken rope, missed inspection, or misapplied product represents risk to users. By understanding common usage patterns, the industry can:

  • Reduce rope-related incidents.
  • Improve training and education.
  • Inform procurement and inspection practices.
  • Support outreach efforts to OSHA and other regulatory bodies.

Backed by the OSHA Relations Committee of NATE, this initiative is aligned with the mission of the OSHA Relations Committee of NATE, which: “Provides a continuing source of information to NATE members and the telecommunications industry regarding OSHA, industry standards, and best practices in an effort to enhance safety, reduce incidents, and deliver a platform for a more effective workforce.”

Who should participate?

  • Field technicians and tower hands
  • Safety managers and trainers
  • Company executives, foremen, and construction leads
  • Rope suppliers and procurement specialists
