Boingo Wireless, a DigitalBridge Group (NYSE: DBRG) portfolio company based in Frisco, TX, has been selected to design, build, and manage wireless networks at the new Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) Replacement Passenger Terminal. The 355,000-square-foot terminal, currently under construction, will include 14 gates and digital infrastructure intended to accommodate modern air travel requirements.

As a neutral host, Boingo is integrating one of the first Wi-Fi 7 airport networks and Wi-Fi 6E with what it says is a high-performance cellular distributed antenna system (DAS). The company claims this integrated system is designed to deliver fast, secure, and reliable wireless coverage for travelers “from curbside to takeoff.” Once completed, airport management anticipates that airline partners, concessionaires, and airport staff will have improved access to reliable connectivity, supporting automation, real-time coordination, and enhanced safety.

Planned amenities include advanced baggage handling systems, a TSA checkpoint aimed at reducing waiting times, expanded boarding areas with additional space and power access, and upgraded IT and communications systems for public safety and announcements.

Airport management also points out this innovation positions BUR at the forefront of digital infrastructure as the region prepares to welcome global events including the FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Summer Olympic & Paralympic Games.

“With our Replacement Passenger Terminal, we’re building an airport for the future, one that embraces innovation and elevates the passenger experience,” comments John Hatanaka, Executive Director of Hollywood Burbank Airport. “Passengers at our new terminal will be able to seamlessly stay connected from curb to gate.”

Boingo’s neutral host DAS enables connectivity for mobile network operators AT&T (NYSE: T), T-Mobile (NASDAQ: TMUS), Verizon (NYSE: VZ) and others, so passengers can stay connected to use their preferred mobile carrier. The company claims that wireless service in the terminal and parking garage will deliver high speeds, low latency, greater capacity, and improved security across busy areas such as ticketing, gates, baggage claim, and rideshare zones.

“Airports are becoming smarter, more connected spaces where digital infrastructure is essential,” Boingo CEO Mike Finley emphasizes.
