Margaret Smith, president and founder of Airosmith Development Inc., became interested in the telecomm industry by chance around 16 years ago.

“I was teaching training classes to government entities, goal setting, that sort of thing, when a friend in the wireless industry told me if I could teach those classes, I would be great in front of a zoning board,” Smith said. “I was young, and wireless seemed interesting, so I decided to go for it.”

After a few years with another company, Smith decided she wanted to have her own and wanted to focus on wind turbines, thus the “airo” in the company’s name. When that didn’t work out, she went back to telecomm. Today Airosmith has more than 30 employees and is focused on the Northeast and Southeast, while also working with clients, tower, utility and engineering companies and key vendors across the country.

Airosmith specializes in site acquisition and provides wireless site identification and analysis and all aspects, including title search, leasing, easements and right of way, zoning and permitting and project management. Other services include radio frequency development and field services, systems installation, trouble shooting and maintenance.

“We work for all the major carriers,” Smith said. “We’re growing and expanding. We are doing what will help us to grow but allow us to keep the culture of who we are. We really get along well and want to keep that balance. We’ve been in business for more than 11 years and are still working for the same clients.
