The Palisades in Charlotte, NC boasts luxury, resort-style living, “high above the lake,” which sounds appealing until you learn what the popular neighborhood lacks. According to county commissioner and resident of The Palisades, Arthur Griffin, phone service is “spotty at best,” which puts residents in danger.
Griffin told WCNC-TV that the area is “booming with development,” but he believes growth should halt until an adequate signal is in place. The area is a dead zone for first responders, which gives Griffin serious pause.
The county commissioner experienced firsthand the danger of poor service last fall. In November 2023, Griffin witnessed a house fire in The Palisades, where 911 calls were being answered in South Carolina, then transferred back to North Carolina. First responders on the scene also experienced issues with radio communication. Everything was operating on a delay, he said.
WCNC-TV reported that the city leased a temporary tower in 2023, to improve connectivity while a new one is built. It’s set to go online on March 15. Since The Palisades sits in a large dead zone, Griffin is imploring the city council to pass a building moratorium until the service problem is resolved.
