It is no secret that the expected explosion of small cells in urban centers has not unfolded as of yet. Aesthetics are seen by some network developers as an impediment to growth. But a number of companies are working to make small cells that are less expensive and more aesthetically pleasing.
One company that will be ready for that surge in the U.S. and globally is Ireland-based antenna solutions concern, Alpha Wireless. Through a licensing agreement with Bigbelly, a supplier of public space waste solutions, Alpha Wireless will offer an integrated antenna with the Telebelly Smart Telecom Enclosure Platform, made by Bigbelly. The result will be a turnkey 5G cell site solution with an integrated antenna, mast, and connectors, including a waste and recycling platform designed to host and conceal network equipment.
“As 5G roll-outs escalate worldwide, network operators require new ways to densify site deployments for faster, simpler scaling, particularly in urban and suburban environments where traditional macrocell site build outs have become difficult,” said Brian Phillips, President and CEO, Bigbelly. “With an integrated, multi-purpose enclosure, operators and neutral hosts can quickly and discreetly deploy radio access network equipment in public spaces.”
The turnkey site enclosure kit can be configured with various Alpha Wireless antenna options, such as ultra-compact antennas for urban small cells or shared tri-sector antennas for macrocell deployments, supporting up to three operators in one neutral host site. In addition to the antenna and mast, each Telebelly can accommodate six radios plus cabling, with colocation capabilities for multiple enclosures per site. This scalable solution enables network operators worldwide to expand deployments to deliver improved connectivity experiences in high traffic areas.
