The telecom regulator for Bangladesh is preparing to offer four telecom tower company licenses, according to the Daily Star.  A top official of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) said while there was a potential for four licenses, reportedly, only two interested parties have communicated with them so far, American Tower and another nationally-based company.

“We can award the licenses within the next two months,” said said Md Jahurul Haque, commissioner for legal and licensing division at the BTRC.

The tower companies, once licensed, will have to own, build and maintain all telecom towers while operators, including all mobile and other telecom service providers, will become their exclusive customers.  Currently, mobile phone operators have more than 30,000 towers across the country, according to BTRC data; officials expect this number to go down after the licenses are awarded, the Daily Star reported.
