UPDATE Combining the best of digital security and online shopping, the Army & Air Force Exchange has made it easier for military personnel on base to stay connected. The addition of both larger cell towers and small cell units is underway, with more installations planned throughout 2024. As DVIDS (Defense Visual Information Distribution Service) notes, servicemen and their families can still visit their base Exchanges in person, but now have the option of doing their shopping electronically as well.

“Staying connected no matter where you serve is a significant Quality of Life force multiplier,” stated Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Rich Martinez, the Exchange’s senior enlisted advisor. “From staying in touch with family and friends to enjoying down time, the Exchange is all in to keep every member of our military community connected through reliable internet and mobile services.”

The Exchange offers exclusive products to the military that are available tax-free and with special pricing options. The new cell towers also mean that phone and streaming services have become very popular purchases, notes DVIDS. The Exchange reports that 162,000 smartphones were activated in 2023 with more than 400 new smartphone users joining each day.
