AT&T is working on a deal to rent towers in Mexico from Telesites, the spinoff of America Movil, Bloomberg reported. Telesites owns about 11,000 towers in Mexico, and a deal would give AT&T access to that expansive network. “Our priority is to begin work to expand our network and enhance our mobile Internet offering,” AT&T spokesman Fletcher Cook said in an e-mailed statement. “As we assess our options, we expect fair pricing, an expedited process, and efficient access similar to other tower companies.” He declined to comment beyond the statement, according to Bloomberg. AT&T moved into Mexico earlier this year with the acquisition of Grupo Iusacell SA, the country’s third-largest mobile phone operator, and Nextel Mexico. Kevin Smithen of Macquarie Securities noted, “Since AT&T has not yet released financial guidance for Mexico (we expect this over the next month), there was no discussion of financial targets, we came away feeling more positive about the long-term opportunities for AT&T in the market and believe that AT&T can get to $1 billion in ‘18 EBITDA vs. $0.7 billion previously.”
