BAI Communications, the Sydney, Australia-based shared network infrastructure provider, has operations in North America, Europe and Asia. By the end of June, BAI will rebrand globally as Boldyn Networks, Inside Towers reported. In preparation for that move, BAI has named Christos Karmis as CEO of Boldyn Networks’ U.S. business, effective July 1. Karmis currently serves as President & CEO of Mobilitie, one of BAI’s group companies.
BAI is in the process of integrating its four U.S. portfolio companies Mobilitie, Signal Point Systems, Transit Wireless and ZenFi Networks into one business entity for the country, Inside Towers reported. As part of the new U.S. team structure, Ray LaChance, Co-Founder and CEO of ZenFi will take a role of Senior Advisor to Boldyn Networks in the U.S., with a focus on realizing the company’s connectivity vision for the NY Metro area and beyond. Melinda White will depart from her role as CEO of Transit Wireless in the second half of 2023.
Igor Leprince, Group CEO of BAI Communications comments, “The contributions of Christos and our forward-thinking leadership team, coupled with their knowledge of the U.S. market will be critical in building a stronger global organization for Boldyn Networks.”
Boldyn Networks will design, fund, build, and operate high-capacity, neutral host networks for customers in the public and private sectors across multiple vertical markets. Recent 5G connectivity projects include Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena and L.A. LIVE, the San Francisco and Bay Area Central Subway system and the New York City Subway, expanded fiber connectivity in the New York and New Jersey metro region, and the LinkNYC project, Inside Towers reported.
Under Karmis, Mobilitie grew by providing connectivity solutions for large venues and enterprises along with private network applications. He was responsible for the 2022 acquisition of Signal Point Systems which provides high-speed wireless and wired broadband connectivity to military personnel and their families.
“The growth opportunities across the U.S. nationally are substantial as the industry continues to rapidly transition from 4G/LTE to 5G and prepares for the next evolution of connectivity needs,” Karmis says. “This strategic move will better position Boldyn Networks in the U.S. marketplace as the neutral host provider of choice for carriers and customers that share our vision of an interconnected future.”
BAI reports that its acquired companies in the U.S. have collectively deployed over 10,000 small cells and equipped 250 venues with indoor distributed antenna systems. It operates wireless systems for transit operators in San Francisco, Seattle, and NYC. The company says that it has one of the largest public outdoor free WiFi networks through the LinkNYC program. BAI companies also provide connectivity in over 75 U.S. military bases with the rights to deploy infrastructure in 40 more.
