Mathews County, VA wants to construct a new cell tower, and so far, two bidders have stepped up to express their interest in the county funded project. As the Gloucester-Mathews Gazette-Journal reports, the county has set aside $670,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funds for the project, according to Jeff Beekhoo, broadband consultant for Mathews County.
The broadband tower project calls for two new cell towers in the region, both of which would be owned by the county. Both bidders submitted information, which is now under review, including certificates of non-collusion, references, and bid bonds.
Information released so far shows that Edward L. Muller Construction Company of Charles City, VA has issued a bid of $808,496. Muller projects a completion time of 90 days. The second bidder, JG Contracting Company of Carnegie, PA, offered a bid of $1,285,645. Though the second bid is higher, the projected completion time for the Pennsylvania bid is only 46 days.
Mathews County is currently reviewing its options and has not yet announced a final decision for the broadband project.
