The Elizabethtown, KY-based carrier said Tuesday it has completed its five-year build-out of its 4G LTE network making high-speed wireless Internet available to all Bluegrass Cellular customers. Bluegrass, which partnered with Verizon’s LTE in Rural America (LRA) program, is one of the first regional carriers in the country to have an entire 4G LTE network.
“Our customers will now experience faster download speeds and stronger data speeds throughout Kentucky, as well as nationwide,” said Ron Smith, president and CEO of Bluegrass Cellular.
During the build-out that began in 2010, Bluegrass engineers and technical teams launched more than 115 new 4G LTE sites, bringing high-speed, reliable coverage to over 732,000 people in a 10,300 square mile radius. Bluegrass’s network in Central Kentucky is available to Verizon customers as well as its own. In return, Bluegrass Cellular customers have access to Verizon’s 4G LTE network throughout the entire United States. In mid-October, Verizon Wireless unveiled its LTE in Rural America program, debuting with 21 regional carriers in 15 states.
Bluegrass’s Smith said, “The work isn’t done. We will continue to seek new opportunities and the latest in technological innovations to make our network even stronger for our customers. Stay tuned! We have many exciting projects on the horizon.”
