Fans attending the Cowtown Coliseum, in Fort Worth, TX, will soon be able to enjoy an enhanced wireless experience once the venue is outfitted with ubiquitous 5G coverage. The site, which is at the center of the National Historic District known as The Stockyards, hosts entertainment events, concerts, and indoor rodeos throughout the year. Cowtown Coliseum has historic significance as one of the first venues where Elvis Presley performed.
Boldyn Networks, a shared network infrastructure provider, has partnered with ASM Global, the live entertainment promoter, in collaboration with the Stockyards Heritage Development Co., the Professional Bull Riders, and the City of Fort Worth to upgrade wireless coverage throughout the facility. Boldyn’s network design will include a multicarrier distributed antenna system, a 3.5 GHz CBRS private network and WiFi 6E. Once complete, Boldyn’s network will integrate the major mobile network operators and provide ubiquitous 5G mobile coverage throughout the entire venue.
The organizations claim that the Cowtown Coliseum deployment will be one of the live entertainment industry’s most technologically advanced and robust projects to date. It will handle applications like mobile ticket scanning, mobile Point of Sale transactions, and mission critical voice communications. Other use cases include immersive AR/VR experiences, live video broadcast, real-time fan engagement applications, helmet cams, and wireless roping chutes.
“With thousands of fans flocking to the venue for each event, it’s critical to have a wireless connectivity backbone that provides an unrivaled and immersive connected experience,” said Jason Oberlander, ASM Global chief commercial officer.
Christos Karmis, Boldyn’s US CEO said, “Our industry-leading infrastructure enables 5G connectivity to deliver wireless coverage and capacity throughout the arena at one of Texas’ most notable venues. The deployment of all three networks sets a new benchmark for digital transformation at large-scale, historical venues.”
