C-Spire to Build New Ridgeland, Mississippi Tower

Not much tower news rolls across the desk from Mississippi, so this is nice to see! C-Spire Wireless hopes to build a new cell tower behind a local Ridgeland elementary school to address data capacity issues that their users have been experiencing in the area. Ridgeland Director of Community Development Alan Hart said Monday the rezoning sign posted in front of the school is to let people know about the tower, which still must be approved at next week’s Board of Aldermen meeting before construction can begin. “They had a public hearing on the Thursday before last,” Hart noted. “They have coverage in the area, but there was some sort of data capacity issue because of high levels of use in the area.” The Board of Aldermen is set to meet next Tuesday, August 5th. C-Spire isn’t the only one with capacity issues. Across the country, carriers large and small are trying to figure out ways to get more data capacity. Some are building new towers, like C-Spire in Mississippi. Others are using spectrum to get the job done. Verizon is using their new XLTE network, which uses recently purchased AWS spectrum to offer additional capacity to their users. Both strategies are focused on the same goal, delivering a better experience to the end user.
