Cell Phone Technology Replaces Equipment on Fire Towers in Rural Florida

While there used to be 20 towers in the Chipola River District in Florida’s Panhandle, there are now only seven. Increased usage in mobile data prompted the state to auction off most of these towers five years ago. This is happening more frequently as the need for reliable mobile infrastructure becomes a necessity. Most of the towers in the Florida Panhandle now host cell phone and airplane technology.
