With its history of being community-focused, Bell Canada has stepped up to face the current pandemic situation by distributing 1.5 million face masks to healthcare and front line workers. Yahoo Finance reports that the masks are being donated to government agencies at all levels in each province. Federal, provincial, and territorial government offices will deliver the masks to healthcare workers, first responders, and other Canadians staying on the job and working directly with the public.
“Since the COVID-19 situation began, Bell has been guided by two principles: the dedication of all our resources to ensuring we keep Canadians connected and informed throughout the crisis, and doing everything possible to ensure the health and safety of our customers, the public and the Bell team,” said Mirko Bibic, President and CEO of BCE Inc. and Bell Canada. “Using Bell’s reach and resources to help to protect the many Canadians facing the public health impact on the front lines fits very well with our focus on getting us all through this crisis together.”
In addition to the masks, Bell Canada has donated $5 million in mental health funding through its Bell Let’s Talk outlet. Recipients include employees and families dealing with the stress of COVID-19, including the Canadian Red Cross, Canadian Mental Health Association, Kids Help Phone, Revivre and Strongest Families Institute.
Bell Canada has also lent its support to facilities needing additional wireless resources to deal with the COVID crisis. Capitalizing on its ability to connect people, Bell joined other broadcasters to transmit “The World Together At Home” fundraising concert, following the success of an earlier venture spearheaded by Elton John.
And branching out from its own Bell Let’s Talk program, the company is helping the Canadian Government with its newly launched Wellness Together Canada site supporting citizens cope with mental health issues during the ongoing pandemic.
