AT&T is proposing to build a 195-foot tower in Bloomfield, KY, that it hopes will satisfy the needs and requirements of residents, first responders and historic preservationists, reported the Kentucky Standard. With residents claiming there is little to no cell service downtown, they say the net effect deters people from moving to Bloomfield while creating a safety issue for police, firefighters and emergency personnel. To this particular hamlet, the tower is a welcome addition.
Former Mayor and City Councilman Denny Howard said the lack of cell service downtown is a battle he has been fighting for nearly 20 years. Howard said, “A cell phone down here is useless.”
AT&T originally proposed a project to construct a tower over 200 feet which was withdrawn last year after preservationist Linda Bruckheimer and the Kentucky Heritage Council raised concerns about adverse effects the structure might have on the Bloomfield Historic District. In response, AT&T came back with a revised proposal that shortened the tower’s height, according to the Standard.
The application is on the agenda of the Planning Commission for a public hearing on June 26, reported The Standard. Per Sabre Industries, tasked with constructing the tower, once they receive the order, it should take approximately eight weeks to build.
