The FCC gave a seven-day extension to all eligible C-band space station operators to file their plans to move from the lower to the upper portion of the band. Eutelsat and Claro, each asked for more time beyond the original June 12 deadline. Intelsat, SES and Telesat, opposed the request for extension but argued that, if more time was granted to anyone, then everyone should get the extension. The FCC called the extension “modest” and said it was in the public interest. The new deadline is June 19.
At the same time, the FCC denied a request from America’s Communications Association and The Internet & Television Association to extend comment on the proposed lump sum payments in the C-band proceeding until June 22, to enable parties to review satellite operator transition plans and ensure their comments reflect that information. They also wanted the lump sum payment information disclosed and information determining how the figures were determined.
The agency said in its denial it considered these requests and elected to provide an additional opportunity for interested stakeholders to file comments beyond the requirements established in the order. Satcos will submit their move plans by August 14. The FCC also noted incumbent earth station operators can make their lump sum elections after satcos have filed their transition plans and those plans have been made available for public comment.
