In an interview yesterday with Inside Towers, Storey County (NV) Sheriff Gerald Antinoro said the tower tech who died last Thursday night near Sparks, NV around 7 p.m. PDT was alone on the tower at the time of the accident. A representative at Broken Arrow Communications (BACOM) confirmed the fallen climber was Joel Miller, a native of Northern California.
Sheriff Antinoro said it is still an open-ended investigation but witnesses told his deputies the climber, “was not using his safety equipment in the proper manner” when he fell from a height of 80-to-100 feet.
The sheriff said there were five witnesses to the fall, although he said he did not know what their roles were. Miller was pronounced dead at the scene and taken by the sheriff’s deputy coroner directly to a mortuary. This the fifth tower fatality of the year.
