Creative, Custom Poles with Small Cells in Mind

Today, January 11, Creative Pultrusions (CPI) is celebrating 46 years of manufacturing quality reinforced polymer (FRP) pultrusion products. Pultrusion is a repeatable process that is lower cost and geared toward high strength and high production, plus the products are lightweight and built to provide lasting performance. CPI’s distribution partner, CompSites International (CSI), offers unique engineered designs and solutions working directly with the wireless telecommunications industry. CSI is an industry leader with over 30 years’ experience in the development and deployment of wireless networks. In collaboration with CPI, CSI offers customizable, aesthetically pleasing small cell solutions which reduce deployment delays while maximizing infrastructure expenditures.

Why is this important for the telecommunications industry? According to Dustin Troutman, Marketing and Product Development Director, who’s been with CPI for 25 years, “My team is focused on the small cell market and engineering custom, composite poles that are RF transparent, lightweight, and allow for direct burial.” Together, CPI and CSI can save worldwide companies in the telecommunications industry time and money, by decreasing their environmental footprint.

How does it accomplish such feats with its products? CPI has an engineering staff with over 100 years of combined experience, focusing on engineering poles that align with wind and seismic loading stipulations for customers all over the world. “CPI provides turnkey solutions, taking a product from concept to design, to tooling manufacturing, to production. We provide custom design and manufacturing for our clients’ specific needs,” added Troutman. CSI works directly with the wireless carriers, tower companies and other wireless industry-related companies to integrate CPI’s product designs specifically for the small cell environment. CSI works closely with its wireless industry clients to develop solutions which solve various challenges such as municipality regulations, OEM specifications, and environmental concerns, all while being cognizant of the budgetary requirements.

For 20 years, CPI has been supplying the power and utility industry with composite poles. Pultruded utility poles feature high reliability when compared to traditionally treated wood poles. Our composite poles last for 75 years or more in the harshest of environments and are even woodpecker and termite-proof, which is important for many areas of the world,” said Troutman.

With what’s on the horizon for the telecommunications industry, how will CPI and CSI participate?  “With 5G networks, there will be a need for numerous innovative small cell applications. The CPI and CSI team is ready and waiting to provide custom solutions that are lightweight enough to hand carry and high-strength enough to withstand a hurricane or other natural disaster while having a smaller environmental footprint,” said Troutman.  For example, CSI’s thirty pole small cell deployment in Big Pine Key, Florida withstood the 130 mile per hour sustained winds of Hurricane Irma and all of the poles remained standing!
