Crown Castle offered $320,000 to lease an Alabama city’s cell tower for the next 99 years. The offer was accepted by the Phil Campbell City Council, reports the Franklin County Times. The desirable cell tower is located along Ballpark Road.

According to Mayor Mike McQuary, the town will use the funds to “fix up Ballpark Road from one end to the other.” The new agreement is an extension of an existing arrangement between Phil Campbell and Crown Castle. The Council also agreed to purchase some new fire rescue tools.

A side note for the curious, “Phil Campbell” earned its name in the 1880’s during the era when railroads, rather than cell towers, were reaching their way across America. Alabama businessman, Mel Allen, said that he would name the town after the man who could build a railway depot and side track that would help establish a town. Engineer Phil Campbell complied, and Allen honored his promise.
