The Department of Defense has been exploring ways to maximize the benefits of 5G with their 5G to Next G Initiative. JMA Wireless announced they, along with other U.S.-based technology companies, performed a recent demonstration for the military of JMA’s XRAN virtual RAN solution. The DOD has been conducting tests at their private 5G network facility at a smart warehouse on the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, GA.

“The U.S. Armed Forces deserve the world’s most advanced 5G solution, and it is only appropriate that this sophisticated software and hardware come from a US company providing US developed technology, that is manufactured in the US,” stated John Mezzalingua, CEO of JMA Wireless. “Advancing the US Military’s communications capabilities is an urgent priority for our country, and we consider it a high honor that our advanced software solution, XRAN, has accelerated the DOD’s 5G deployment timeline.”

Delivered ahead of its targeted completion date, JMA’s XRAN virtual RAN solution was able to achieve download speeds of 1.5 Gbps and super low latency of 15 milliseconds. JMA also celebrated its incorporation of the military’s 37 GHz millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum. Additional accomplishments included a 5G mmWave solution operated by software rather than chipset, and the successful use of CBRS spectrum as anchor band for mmWave delivery.
