The Senate Commerce Committee on Wednesday morning voted unanimously to reappoint FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel (pictured) to a second 5-year term. President Obama re-nominated Rosenworcel in May and her current term expired in June but she can serve until the end of 2016 without being reconfirmed. The Senate Committee held her re-nomination hearing at the end of October where she faced generally friendly questioning by the panel. Her reappointment by the full Senate is expected to be uneventful. Rosenworcel is a Democrat originally appointed to the FCC by Obama.
Rosenworcel’s FCC colleague and fellow commissioner Michael O’Reilly, a Republican, said in a statement, “I am pleased to see the Senate Commerce Committee unanimously approved and reported favorably to the U.S. Senate the nomination of Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel. While she is certainly a fierce advocate for her positions, we have been able to find common ground and work together on a number of issues, and I deeply respect her views, even when I occasionally disagree. I look forward to continuing to work with my friend in the future.”
“I congratulate Commissioner Rosenworcel on her well-deserved approval by the Senate Commerce Committee for a new term with the FCC,” said former FCC Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein, now president and CEO of PCIA- the Wireless Infrastructure Association. “I have seen her demonstrate over many years a keen understanding of the many issues before the FCC, including the vital role wireless infrastructure plays in meeting the bandwidth needs of consumers. We look forward to working with her as she continues her outstanding work to promote greater mobile broadband deployment and so many other issues on which she has worked tirelessly on behalf of consumers.”
