UPDATE FCC employees are scheduled to move in late August to the agency’s new headquarters at 45 L St. in the Northeast portion of the District of Columbia. Employees will continue to telework at least until the new building is ready.
Inside Towers reported the Commission has been preparing to move to a smaller space for several years. The previous move date was last month, delayed by COVID-19. Employees will return to “The Portals” by appointment to pack-up their current offices, according to Communications Daily. The FCC sent home its employees to telework in March due to the pandemic.
The Portals II building at 445 12th St. Southwest, near the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, has been home to the FCC since 1997. Previously, the agency moved from M Street in Northwest, D.C., near many prominent communications law firms. At the time, the move to The Portals consolidated employees that were spread out in eight other locations across the District into one building.
Visitors have been barred from entering the current building since March. The new building is in the NoMa neighborhood near Union Station and NPR’s headquarters.
