Jobseekers in the U.K. can now apply for six months of free “high-quality” broadband to help with their search. The Guardian reported that U.K. telecom TalkTalk and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) are offering the service to remove “digital exclusion and barriers to employment.”

TalkTalk’s Fibre 35 broadband service will be available for job seekers via a no-contract voucher, normally costing approximately $31 per month. WiFi service is being offered with a home router and uncapped usage/no data limits.

The Guardian reported that since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, many job opportunities had moved online. TalkTalk and the DWP trialled the free program early on during lockdown, which “proved successful,” according to the collaborators.

Mims Davies, the employment minister, noted, “We want to support job seekers in any way we can on their journey to securing employment, which includes leveling up opportunities by making sure they are digitally connected and can access the full range of support offered by our Plan for Jobs and our JobHelp website.”
