iPhone Users on the Rise, Seven Could Be Its Lucky Number

iphone7Some things do get better with age, and while sales of Apple’s iPhone 6s and the Plus version were sluggish in 2015, the same may not be said for the iPhone 7.

The Motley Fool reported that the iPhone 7 sales could be on the rise not only due to a higher customer base (there are 50 percent more iPhone users than two years ago) but also due to nationwide wireless promotions from carriers. Timing always is key, as the iPhone 7 launched about the same time Samsung’s Galaxy Notes “went viral,” according to The Motley Fool.

AT&T says that preorders for the 7 and the 7 Plus went up and Sprint and T-Mobile also reported higher preorders to the tune of 375 percent year over year in the first three days, The Motley Fool reported. For T-Mobile, this was the biggest iPhone launch at almost four times higher than ever before.

Verizon, however, didn’t have good news to report initially. The No. 1 wireless carrier said that preorders for the 7 were “in line with typical numbers” for a new iPhone. Verizon CFO Fran Shammo said at a news conference this week that there was some increase, however, in volumes reported in 2015, due to “unprecedented promotional offers.”

Promotions as reported by The Motley Fool included:

  • T-Mobile offered customers a free 32GB iPhone 7 with the trade-in of a working iPhone 6. The offer will end this weekend.
  • AT&T, Sprint and Verizon followed with similar offers and are predicted to follow suit with T-Mobile.

The Fool predicts more promotions even on an international scale, once the iPhone 6 contracts of 2015 run out. In China, China Unicom is subsidizing 49 percent of the cost of a new iPhone 7, with China Telecom subsidizing 40 percent of the cost.
