A cell phone tower in Lockport, NY, may be reaching new lows. Steven Lingard, a Verizon Wireless consultant, told the Town of Lockport Planning Board at its Tuesday meeting that a proposed cell tower may have to be reduced in height. Lingard also proposed a slight shift in location for the tower, which currently is proposed to be at 7154 Chestnut Ridge Road on Lewis family land.

Lingard, according to BuffaloNews.com, proposed the tower be reduced to 180 feet from 199 feet. When Verizon considered the tower’s location, three of five proposed sites were on the same land, however Board Member Rodney Conrad said at the meeting that the current site was “the worst of the Lewis sites, the closest to residential areas.”

In order to find a less crowded site, Verizon must “use and height variances from the Zoning Board of Appeals as well as a special use permit from the Planning Board,” reports BuffaloNews.com.

The proposal is on the Planning Board’s meeting agenda, set for February 2. After that, both boards must hold public hearings for the proposal to move further.
