The number of cell tower sites out of service in Florida due to Hurricane Irma has dropped markedly — to just over 18 percent, compared to 24.6 percent the day before. Out of a total of 14,730 tower sites, 2,661 are not working, according to the FCC’s  Disaster Information Reporting System, accurate as of 11 a.m. Wednesday. The number of counties with 50 percent or more sites not operational continued to decline, to three as of Wednesday: Collier, Hendry and Monroe. Highlands and Union have now fallen below the 50 percent threshold.

In Georgia, 5.3 percent of the sites are not operational, compared to 10.5 percent the day before. In Alabama, less than one percent of cell tower sites in the disaster area are out of service. No counties in either Georgia or Alabama have counties with 50 percent or more out of service.

Just over 10 percent of the sites are not working in Puerto Rico, compared to 14.5 percent on Tuesday. However in the U.S. Virgin Islands, 54.7 percent are not working, up from 53.8 percent on Tuesday.

The number of 911 call centers out of service in Florida remains the same — 29. Calls are not being routed for four of those. Five were reported out in Georgia and two in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

In Florida, 39 radio (down from 51) and three TV stations were off the air.
