A “Tesla Tower” brings to mind the strange lattice dome-topped Wardenclyffe tower erected by the telecom wizard in 1902, but in this case, residents in Toronto, Canada were perplexed by new structures at a Tesla automobile charging station. Tesla drivers took to Twitter, reports Electrek.co, questioning the sudden appearance of the mysterious towers.
Although the core question has been answered, they are, in fact cell towers, the structures have generated many questions and much speculation. Online conversations recalled earlier comments from Tesla CEO and SpaceX guru Elon Musk. Musk has noted that his Starlink satellite internet would be available to higher latitudes first, leaving people to speculate that the new towers would service SpaceX as well as Tesla.
Others suspect that the new structure is a giant battery of some sort.
Another line of thought points out that Loblaws, a mega grocery chain in Canada, just bought a fleet of trucks from Tesla. The new towers were designed to service these trucks, say proponents of that theory.
Whatever other features the mysterious towers may support remains to be seen. The one thing that is known for sure is that they are cell towers.
