G2 Consulting Group (G2) is a consulting engineering firm providing geotechnical, environmental, and construction engineering services. With more than 50 employees in three locations – Troy, MI, Ann Arbor, MI, and Chicagoland, IL – G2 is able to serve their clients nationwide. G2 engineers are registered in 35+ states throughout the United States!

Analysis of Existing Tower Foundations

G2’s experts have provided geotechnical, construction observation, and foundation design and mapping services on over 5,000 communication sites, traffic signal poles, and light pole structures. Design recommendations have included straight shaft and belled drilled piers, pad and pier foundations, mat foundations, rock anchors, and helical piles.

G2 has also provided foundation mapping services for free-standing, monopole, and guyed towers to complete a structural analysis of the tower when original foundation plans were no longer available. Depending on the type of the tower and foundation, more invasive procedures such as backhoe excavations, probes, and foundation cores have been used to determine foundation bearing depth and dimensions.

Environmental Investigations for Telecommunications Towers

Environmental studies are required prior to construction of telecommunications tower facilities. Often, these studies are critical to the project schedule.  G2 has provided environmental due diligence and regulatory evaluations for telecommunications clients and architectural/engineering firms throughout the United States.

Small Cells/Distributed Antenna Systems

Wireless companies building out small cell networks or in-building systems are required to consider whether their proposed actions may have an adverse effect on historic resources. G2 performs regulatory compliance reviews and tribal consultations for proposed small cell and distributed antenna system (DAS) facilities. These reviews ensure our clients conform with the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Nationwide Programmatic Agreement (NPA) requirements. In the case of DAS installations, hazardous materials (asbestos and lead) surveys and/or abatement work may be warranted to facilitate the safe installation of equipment associated with the DAS. G2 oversees both hazardous material surveys and abatement projects for clients in the telecommunications sector.
