A new partnership between Vantage Towers and energy company MOWEA has the cell tower industry in Germany seeing green. As MarketScreener.com reports, the addition of wind turbines to the legions of cell towers dotting the country will give Vodafone a huge boost in energy efficiency. The electricity generated by the wind turbines will power the sites, drastically reducing their CO2 emissions.

Vodafone, which already has an established relationship with Vantage Towers, has stated that this project should help the company reach its goal of a 50 percent reduction in emissions by 2025. Ultimately, the aim is to achieve climate neutrality by 2040.

“We aim to deliver flexible wind energy solutions to industrial users and to help our partners achieve their environmental goals in the process,” stated Dr. Till Naumann, CEO of MOWEA-Windenergieanlagen GmbH. “The collaboration between Vantage Towers and MOWEA is a fantastic example of a successful partnership between established market players and startups in the battle to prevent climate change. By installing our micro wind turbines at Vantage Towers sites, we are making the on-site generation of green power for the establishment and operation of networks possible – with the potential for a Europe-wide scale-up in the near future.”

The project will begin with the installation of 750 wind turbines on 52 existing Vantage Towers sites. MOWEA has noted that its mini turbines can be used in locations that cannot accommodate full sized turbine units, and can also be used in conjunction with photovoltaic systems.

“We are very excited about the strategic partnership with MOWEA,” agreed Vivek Badrinath, CEO of Vantage Towers AG, “Because it enables us to generate cost-efficient and maintenance-friendly renewable energy at selected sites with their wind turbines. It also represents an important step forward towards a greener future and the sustainable digital transformation of Europe. We have more than 82,000 towers in Europe. So, if the pilot project is a success, there is clear potential for the future expansion of the partnership.”
