Congratulations poured in following the news that President Donald Trump announced his intent to re-nominate Jessica Rosenworcel as an FCC Commissioner. She was a commissioner beginning in 2012 and left last December after the Senate did not extend her term before time ran out.

Recode recently reported Rosenworcel was a front-runner for the open Democratic seat on the Commission. Typically nominees are announced in pairs but Trump has not yet named the GOP choice for the FCC. FCC General Counsel Brendan Carr is said to be on the short list for the job.

The wireless industry supports Rosenworcel, said CTIA, the Wireless Infrastructure Association, USTelecom and NTCA, the Rural Broadband Association. All hope for swift Senate confirmation. CTIA President/CEO Meredith Attwell Baker, herself a former FCC commissioner, said Rosenworcel “is a dedicated public servant who has demonstrated strong leadership and a keen understanding of the need for a modern spectrum policy, as well as promoting policies to help speed the deployment of broadband networks for American consumers and business.”

“Jessica served with dedication and thoughtfulness during her previous tenure at the FCC,” said WIA President/CEO Jonathan Adelstein. “She has a deep understanding of wireless infrastructure and the important role it plays in promoting innovation and economic growth in communities around the country.”

“She knows firsthand the importance of broadband to bring advancements in healthcare, education, public safety and economic development to rural America,” said NTCA Chief Executive Officer Shirley Bloomfield. USTelecom CEO Jonathan Spalter said he’s personally worked with Rosenworcel on a number of issues over the years and has “always been impressed by her intellect, her integrity and her commitment to encouraging continued investment in our nation’s broadband networks and increasing choice and opportunities for consumers.”

Broadcasters cheered her re-nomination too. “Rosenworcel is supremely qualified for another FCC term, having demonstrated her public service credentials and full command of telecommunications issues during her Commission tenure,” said NAB President/CEO Gordon Smith.
