Homeland Towers, teamed with Verizon Wireless as Cellco Partnership, is proposing to build a 150-foot monopole on a 43.28-acre Town of Brookfield, CT-owned parcel. In a 7-page letter to Brookfield First Selectman Stephen C. Dunn on December 16, Cellco attorney Kenneth Baldwin said the “Brookfield South Facility” “would provide improved coverage to existing service gaps along portions of Route 7, 202, 25 and 133 in Brookfield.” The property is directly behind and west of the Brookfield Fire Department, the lawyer noted.

Along with the Verizon pole – backed off the road by about 420 feet — comes a 62’ x 75’ fenced and gravel compound that will contain a 500-gallon propane fuel tank. Cellco will install 12 panel-type antennas at the centerline height of 146 feet above ground level, the plan said. In addition, “Town antennas will be attached to the top of the tower and extend to an overall height of approximately 175 feet above ground level,” Baldwin said in his letter that accompanied a technical report.

Danbury, CT-based Homeland Towers originally introduced its tower plan two February’s ago and it was “approved with little fanfare by Brookfield residents at a town meeting,” reported the Danbury NewsTimes last week. Brookfield’s Board of Selectmen voted unanimously on a 55-year lease of the property to Homeland Towers, which is expected to generate some $30,000 to $50,000 in revenue for the town, or some $3.5 million over the life of the lease, the NewsTimes reported in July, 2013. The winning ingredient in the Selectmen’s assessment was the ability to use the tower for the town’s various emergency services.
Homeland’s Ray Vergati said the firm will likely submit plans in April to the Connecticut Siting Council, which reviews telecommunications applications and if approved, could build the tower with 12 to 14 months But before that happens, there’s another community meeting set for 7 p.m. January 27, at Town Hall where the public and town officials can review plans, comment and voice concerns.
