After years of planning (since the early 2000s) and months of construction, the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa reservation has a fully operational, 300-foot tall tower. WDIO-DT reported that poor connection in this rural area had been an issue for residents, tourists, and first responders.

“For the reservation itself, this is game-changing.

It brings the Red Cliff reservation into the 20th Century,” said Theron Rutyna, IT Director for the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa reservation.

The tower was built by AT&T in conjunction with First Net and will improve not only cell service but broadband as well. Coverage is expected to jump from 20 percent to 80 percent in populated areas, according to WDIO. The tower will especially help first responders during any emergencies.
