Cell Tower Service to Shine on Sunlight Mountain

Prioritizing the safety of Sunlight Mountain Resort outdoor sports enthusiasts, plans to erect a 70-foot monopole cell tower are underway in the Colorado community. As The Post Independent reports, the proposal received the unanimous support of the Board of Garfield County Commissioners.

The cell tower will occupy a 3.52-acre parcel accessible by Forest Service Road 300. The Four Mile Park host site operates a historic property where visitors can learn more about early settlement in the state. Visitors to both the Four Mile Park and the Sunlight Mountain Resort will be able to summon assistance to the remote mountain region, or simply post photos, once T-Mobile installs the new cell tower. Although T-Mobile will be the first tenant, there will be room on the new tower for future occupants.

Connections are currently reported as “spotty” by residents and visitors. “I like to ski to escape my cell phone, but we know people want to do business and want a safer mountain,” noted Sunlight Marketing Event and Sales Director Travis Baptiste. “That’s why this is going to be better for us.”

Addressing aesthetic concerns, officials noted that the modest height will not require intrusive lighting, and will blend in with the treeline rather than reach over it. Garfield County Community Development Principal Planner Glenn Hartmann added that T-Mobile will have opportunities “to do some painting or making sure the finish of the tower blends in well with the native vegetation and the surrounding area.”

The Post Independent notes that different organizations have coordinated to facilitate the issuing of permits and permissions that will keep the project moving forward. Speaking on behalf of the Board of Commissioners, consultant Mike Bieniek stated that construction will begin “as soon as possible.”
