More than 35,000 CenturyLink customers across the U.S. experienced a major broadband outage on June 19, with connectivity issues also affecting users of Quantum Fiber and Brightspeed, according to Data Center Dynamics. Lumen attributed the outage to a “network routing issue,” adding that its technical teams resolved the disruption and fully restored service.

All three services are tied to Lumen Technologies, which still operates CenturyLink for residential and small business users, while Quantum Fiber handles its fiber-to-the-home segment. Brightspeed acquired Lumen’s ILEC business in 20 states three years ago.

According to Downdetector, CenturyLink users began reporting issues just before 5:30 p.m. ET, with reports peaking at more than 35,500 about an hour later. The Denver metro area in Colorado appeared to be the hardest hit. Roughly 18,000 Quantum Fiber customers and over 3,000 Brightspeed users also reported problems.
