The City of Boulder, CO announced it is seeking proposals from potential service providers interested in offering high-capacity broadband services to residential and commercial retail customers within the city.
The city is offering a long-term lease of city-owned dark-fiber backbone infrastructure and to separately enter into a right-of-way agreement for the respondent’s construction and operation of a network delivering internet bandwidth of 1 Gbps or more to all Boulder homes and businesses.
This initiative, which envisions a city-wide fiber-to-the-premises deployment, will increase the broadband connectivity of community members, businesses, and anchor institutions by expanding the range and quality of available broadband and data transport services.
Since 2018, the city has been working to build the necessary ‘fiber-backbone’ infrastructure needed to deliver high-quality fiber-based internet service.
