Costa Rica’s Institute of Electricity, or ICE, has issued a call for 5G providers. As BN Americas reports, the state-run agency wants to advance its 4G LTE and 5G services over the coming year. Interested vendors applying to participate will be expected to meet a predetermined delivery model. The selection process and awarding of contracts is expected to take approximately four months to complete, with work beginning in February 2024.
“The objective is to acquire goods and services that allow the implementation of a 5G network, as well as the development and evolution of LTE networks, with their radio frequency elements, 5G mobile core, routers for interconnection and adaptations of mobile infrastructure, the management system, civil and electromechanical services, training, operation and maintenance,” ICE said.
Although ICE subsidiary, Rasca, has worked with both Nokia and Chinese telecom equipment manufacturer, Huawei, the government has indicated that Huawei will not be able to bid in the upcoming auction for 5G spectrum due to security concerns. No auction date has been announced yet. ICE noted that Rasca is also in the process of ramping up its 5G efforts.
