County of San Diego Seeks Input Prior to Broadband Funding

The County of San Diego, CA has released a draft Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) and wants to hear from stakeholders through the public comment period of May 15, 2024, through June 10, 2024. The county is looking to collaborate with eligible applicants by providing available funding through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to develop a project or program that expands high-speed, reliable and affordable internet to communities in the unincorporated area.

The county may also consider proposals from ISPs that subsidize internet costs for customers that were enrolled in the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) who do not qualify for an existing discounted program; and/or households that did not have internet services during the ACP that would have qualified if service was available at that time.

“It is important to recognize that the amount of ARPA funding available is not enough to get broadband access to every single one of the 37,000 households who need it,” the County stated in a press release, “which is why the county is seeking input to maximizing the reach of every dollar for the unincorporated communities most in need.”

Those interested in providing input on the scope of the NOFA or the scoring criteria may email: [email protected].
