Residents of Highland Heights, Ohio are expecting to receive improved mobile coverage in the near future after the City Council unanimously approved to forward a proposal for a new tower to the city’s Planning & Zoning Commission on Tuesday. The proposal by Crown Castle, is for a new tower that would replace an existing tower in Highland Heights Park.

After final approval, the tower would be constructed and installed by February. The new tower would hold antennas for three carriers, and would be 105-feet tall, five feet shorter than the existing tower. According to online news source, Cleveland.com, the tower that stands in the park now is solely used by T-Mobile, which originally constructed the tower. Crown Castle recently purchased the tower.

Crown Castle Real Estate Specialists John Demko and Travis Schenk spoke to the City Council and explained the benefits of the building a new tower. Schenk said, “The benefits to the city would be reduced maintenance, increased revenues, enhanced 911 location service, and better reception and data.”

Crown Castle agreed to let the city’s police and fire departments operate the tower, and estimated the town’s profits would increase by $800-$1,100 a month. The entire installation process is expected to take 90-180 days to complete.
