A Florida man has been arrested in Brevard County after allegedly attempting to bomb a state-owned radio tower, according to WOFL-TV. Authorities responded to a call on Friday, June 6, regarding a suspicious vehicle near Deering Parkway Road. When deputies arrived, the vehicle attempted to leave the area but was quickly stopped. During a search, officers discovered what Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey described as a possible pipe bomb, according to Data Center Dynamics.
The suspect, whose name has not yet been released, was taken into custody. Sheriff Ivey indicated that the man appeared to be motivated by frustration over employment issues, noting that he had made comments about being fired and had intended to target a state radio tower.
Officials emphasized that the situation appears to be an isolated incident and is not being treated as an act of terrorism. As a precaution, Deering Parkway Road was shut down for several hours while bomb units and other emergency teams conducted a thorough investigation between Interstate 95 and U.S. 1.
