Verizon Wireless wants to build a tower in the north end of East Grand Forks, MN but the city denied their request, which may prompt a lawsuit by the carrier, according to WDAZ-TV.
Residents have been vocal in their disapproval of the site, focusing on the aesthetic impact the site would have on the community. Verizon officials insist there’s a coverage gap and, coupled with rising demand, the site is a necessity.
A city administrator told WDAZ-TV that they are aware the carrier has an option to sue – if they think their reasons for denying the company aren’t good enough. Verizon proposed another potential site two years ago but the city denied that request as well.
“At this point there’s nothing more for the city to do. It’s up to the applicant now and Verizon Wireless to see what they would like to do next or how they’d like to proceed,” said City Administrator, David Murphy.
