At Mobile World Congress 2023 Las Vegas, EnerSys® announced the introduction of two new innovative products. The DPX Distributed Power Transport System was launched as a solution for accelerating 5G small cell deployment. The system uses Fault Managed Power technology to distribute electricity from a central site to distant small cell nodes. This technique decreases the number of connections to the electrical grid by up to 90%, according to EnerSys®, minimizing wait times by reducing the permitting requirements and construction work with local utility companies.
The second innovation was EnVision™ CONNECT, a tool that adds intelligence to EnerSys® Thin Plate Pure Lead (TPPL) batteries. A sensor embedded in the battery detects temperature and voltage and communicates via Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE) to a smartphone app or controller equipped with EnVision™ CONNECT. This arrangement provides real-time access to performance when the battery is either in service or stored in a warehouse. It also provides key inventory information such as the battery model, serial number, manufacturing date, and origin of the battery.
Two other small cell powering solutions were featured at the event. The Cellect 5000 outdoor power system provides 5000 Watts of on-site local power in a compact, environmentally hardened package. The Alpha® BSC Gateway enables cable operators or small cell providers to use existing cable broadband coax infrastructure to deliver power and backhaul. The macro cell solution included was the Cordex® Hyperboost DCDC converter which enables operators to efficiently power antennas mounted at the top of the tower. The company also displayed its PowerSafe® iON 48 battery, a compact Lithium-ion solution for providing backup power.
In addition, David Olps, Director-Advanced Communications Networks for EnerSys®, was a panelist in the session, “5G: Redefining How The World Connects,” and explained how Fault Managed Power can accelerate 5G deployment and revenue generation for operators. To learn more about EnerSys®, click here.
