FCC Considers Rapid Response Team to Mediate Pole Attachment Fights

The FCC plans to continue easing broadband deployment by addressing pole attachment concerns at its December 13 meeting. The Commission will consider rules to make the pole attachment process “faster, more transparent, and more cost-effective,” said FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel recently in a blog.

In a Report and Order, if passed, the dispute resolution process would speed up. The Commission would establish a new intra-agency response team to coordinate a review and assessment of pole attachments disputes and recommend a resolution.

The agency would also amend its pole attachment make-ready rules to require utilities to provide to potential attachers, upon request, information contained in the utilities’ most recent cyclical pole inspection reports.

Commissioners will also vote to seek public input on ways to further facilitate the approval process for pole attachment applications that are submitted in large numbers.
